I oppose government restriction, because I don't think this is something that should be legislated. I think every parent should make the decision for their own children about what social media they are or aren't allowed to access, and then keep an eye on what their kids do online.
We don't allow our kids to have social media accounts. SMS A is allowed, but that's about it, and we periodically go through our kids texts. We haven't yet decided at what age we'll finally allow it. Our oldest is 15, and I regularly check her phone and Chromebook to see what she's getting up to. When she created an IG account without permission, I found out and made her shut it down. Same for Reddit.
But if my state introduced legislation to ban Instagram for minors, I'd write to my legislators to ask them to vote against it, to allow parents to make that decision themselves. I don't want my kids using IG, but I also don't believe it's my place, or the government's place, to make the decision for other parents.
@danjones000 Thank you for this, Dan.
