If Star Trek communications worked like real world audio/video communications:

Uhura: Captain, the Klingon vessel is hailing us.

Kirk: Lt. Uhura, have we installed the Klingon video and audio codecs?

Uhura: Yes, captain, but they've updated their protocol since our last hail.

Captain: Mr. Spock, install the software for their new protocol.

Spock: Unfortunately, Captain, the new protocol has not been ported to Federation OS.

Captain: Just fire phasers on the Klingon vessel!

@danjones000 Also, you can’t jam a signal at its source. Jamming is always at the destination. Trek often gets this wrong.#startrek
