So in Enterprise, Mild Melds are like …anal sex now? Is that where this is headed?

I think you're referencing the episode where T'Pol gets mind-raped and then later gets Vulcan brain AIDS from it.

But, why compare it to anal, instead of just coitus? I feel like I'm missing something?

@danjones000 So…this is where my brain went…the Brain AIDS episode seems to be direct commentary on, as you suggested, AIDS, and the gay community, especially here in the US where research was limited because of a government that didn’t care for the gay community in the first place, and therefore didn’t care about a disease that seemed to mostly infect said community. The “Mind Meld” being described as kind of an abhorrent practice from the scientists, which spread this disease, made me think the comparison would be anal sex, maybe specifically gay anal sex.

It’s actually a really interesting episode and it’s refreshing to see the Vulcans depicted with their own prejudices and faults.

Yeah. That makes sense.

It was a pretty thinly-veiled reference to AIDS and the gay community, so yeah, comparing it to anal makes sense, with anti-sodomy laws and whatnot.

I liked the episode too, although, it felt like it was needed twenty years earlier. I mean, TNG had an episode with a trans woman being forced into conversion therapy in the early 90s, and ten years after that, Enterprise does an episode about AIDS.

@danjones000 Yeah, it definitely wasn’t timely. They may as well have commented on the Iran-Contra Affair while they were at it.

@LoganFive
This post kind of reminds me of the time I had my car in the shop and the TV in the waiting room was on one of those news/entertainment shows, and the sunny young blonde and the chisel-jawed hunk hosts were discussing anal sex.
Unexpected, you know what I mean?
I'm the last person to want to kink-shame anybody, but I'm also the first person to feel naughty when I think about kinky stuff.
I'm not so much commenting on your post, Mr Five, as I am STILL processing that event -- which must have happened at least 5 years ago.
PS: Should I be telling this to Fesshole instead of you?

Don't know where this post is going or where it came from, Party of Five, but I'm going along for the ride just out of curiosity.
