The idea of Holos is intriguing, and very appealing to me. But one question I've had is about battery life. I see that the connection between the app and relay is WebSockets, which should be efficient.

But if I've got a very active account: a lot of followers and post a lot, that would result in a lot more activity in my phone than using a more traditional approach, wouldn't it?

What have you seen with regards to battery life in your usage?

WebSockets only run when the app is open. When you close it, everything stops. For important stuff like mentions or DMs, the relay uses UnifiedPush to wake your phone. The relay queues incoming activities and deletes them once your phone gets them. So even with thousands of followers, your phone only processes activities when you're actually using the app. In practice, battery impact is similar to any social media app, not a server running 24/7.
