There was a layoff in my company today. My job is still secure, but a developer on my team was let go, as well as one of our QA engineers.

This is the second round of layoffs in less than six months, so it probably goes without saying that this has left me feeling unsettled.

My company works in creator marketing (i.e. influencers selling stuff on Instagram). We got hit pretty hard last year when Meta cut off access to one of our primary sources of information, and we lost some customers.

After the last round of layoffs, they promised that that round was intended to ensure that we wouldn't need to do this again.

The other engineer on my team who was laid off was a great guy, and a really good engineer. He's been instrumental in the development of our upcoming integration with TikTok. It's going to be really hard to keep working on it without him.

Anyway, I don't really know how I'm feeling about all this right now. But this all sucks pretty hard. And, I guess I'll have to see what our CEO says about all this tomorrow in our All Hands meeting.
