As a follow-up to my last post, I have also posted on LinkedIn also asking for job leads: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/danjones000_my-company-is-about-to-have-a-round-of-layoffs-activity-7185402377976348672-j3od
If you have a LinkedIn profile, and don't mind resharing that post (not this one) there as well, I'd appreciate it.
@danjones000 If it's time to go, go.
@danjones000 I think @ddev is on the lookout for part time contributors - in case you need to bridge a gap, go + php are perfect skillset
@danjones000 you may even want to wait it out as long as possible - they may not lay more people off and if you do end up being laid off you can collect unemployment and work on a consulting gig at home while also getting more fam time - things should work out for you if you stay proactive and network like you are doing now
@danjones000 please inquire also about severance including health insurance for the 3 months. That should be negotiable.
They told us insurance would be available through COBRA, which in my experience, is pretty crappy.
@danjones000 If you do get laid off or take the buy-out, it does not hurt to ask for insurance in addition.
@danjones000 never agree to be fired, even if they promise a 'go away premium'... That's just the company being cheap and not wanting to follow due process.
@danjones000 in the Netherlands if you agree to such a thing you also waive several govt benefits. So be careful with signing anything as likely all it does for them is to save money on procedures and make it look like you quit to the govt, which is the wrong statistic.
My company has just announced that there will be a round of layoffs soon. They just laid off a bunch of C-levels. They're giving us the opportunity to "opt in" to "workforce reduction" with a promise of three months severance.
It's been pretty tumultuous here, lately, to be honest, and I'm considering it.
But, I've got a wife and four kids to take care of, and I've never willingly left a job when I didn't have another one already lined up. And we've got good benefits (healthcare and dental) right now, so I really don't want to give that up.
Maybe if I had something lined up with similar pay and benefits, I could do it.
So, I'm looking for any recommendations. I'm a #PHP developer (of roughly twenty years), who has been doing a lot of #golang for the past year, and I've gotten very proficient at that as well.
I'm looking for a US-based company, and a Principal/Staff/Senior Developer role.
Anybody have any good leads? My website is at https://danielrayjones.com, and I can be emailed at [email protected].
